About Zoology Department
Padmabhushan
Dr.Vasantrao Dada Patil Mahavidyalaya, Tasgaon (Dist-Sangali) was established
in 1962 by Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur founded by
Shikshanmaharshi Dr. Bapuji Salunkhe with a motto-Dissemination of Education
for knowledge, Science and culture. The college is located in the prime area of
Tasgaon tahsil.
Department
of zoology is one of the department of the college which was established in
1984. It is a great pleasure to note that the department runs B.Sc. Zoology
course. Departments laboratory is recognized by Shivaji University for M.Phil
and Ph.D. There are about 15 Ph.D.students working in the laboratory of Zoology
department. M.Sc. Zoology course is also run by the department which is
affiliated to the Shivaji University Kolhapur.
B.Sc. III students of the department undertake work of research project
and they have completed various research projects. The students also
participate in the AVISHKAR activity conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
The department is trying to prepare the students for research of global
standard. Students of B.Sc. III and Ph.D. course are getting prizes in various
activities. The students were also participated in workshops and seminars organized
by different colleges. The department of zoology runs various add-on / skill
based courses such as certificate course in Apiculture , Vermicomposting and Sericulture.
Five Permanent staffs of the
department are Ph. D holders. One management appointed staff member is registered
for Ph. D degree and one staff member has awarded Ph.D. degree. All staff members are engaged in research.
They have presented research paper in various National and International conferences
organized by various universities and colleges. Prof. (Dr.) Khabade S.A. Head
of the Department has published about 73 text books and Practical Books for
B.Sc. I and B.Sc. II year students and also for std XI and XII students. He was
a BOS member of Zoology, Shivaji University Kolhapur. Staff of the department
has published about 27 research papers in national and international reputed
indexed journals having impact factor more than 8.76 and Prof (Dr.) S. A. Khabade, Dr. P.S. Bhandare and Miss. S.P. Kusarkar has got a patent, related to Sericulture Dusting Machin. Dr. P. B. Teli has published 02 reference book. Dr. P.S. Bhandare has
There are about 46 reference books and text
books are present in the departmental library. Department has enough
infrastructure such as 02 labs, staff room and 02 lecture halls, one is having
ICT facility. Department has well maintained zoological museum.
Department follows curriculum
designed by the university and conducting various programs. Department has
regularly conducted field visits, study tours, research projects and industrial
visits. More than 60% students
taking admission to PG at various reputed institutes. Remaining students taking
admission to other course such as L.L.B., DMLT, MBA and few of them become
employee. Department regularly organizes various programms to enhance knowledge
in the students. In
the account of students participation department organizes poster presentation competition
every year on the occasion of World Wild Life Week, Sparrow day , Science Day, guru pornima Day programms.
Department invites various eminent
parsons in the field of zoology for guest lectures , talks on- Vermicomposting,
Apiculture, Sericulture, AIDS Awareness, Snake Awareness, Heart Day, Vector
born Diseases- Malaria, Dengue etc. Hands on training programme is also organized
by the department e.g Handling of Honey bees and Manufacturing of artificial
bee hive.
